Edessa's oceans remained largely unexplored. It is known, however, that many species of fish call the seas home. The fish were discovered early on to be edible to humans. As a result many fishing villages were founded later on when humanity finally found it's to Edessa.
Edessa was colonized in by the Unified Earth Colonies in 2275. Most of the colonists were of Greek descent, which explains the planet's name. The original cities of Icarus and Kiprou were set up in record time. It was wasn't long until human civilization spread beyond that. Many colonists became farmers and miners. Sometimes towns would spring up overnight.
A colonial government was set up and government buildings were made in Ancient Greek/Roman styles. The colonist's dreams of creating a new Greece was being realized. Eventually the prefab houses were replaced with houses of Greek archetecture, to better recreate the Greece that the colonists had been so accoustomed to.
The colony began to prosper and the population skyrocketed. Towns and cities alike grew, and new farmsteads were set up. The industry of Edessa also expanded. New trade stations were made in orbit and Edessian goods started to get exported to other colonies. Edessa became a important trade hub for the region.
In the mid 2400's seeds of doubt were spread among Edessian colonists, however, in the wake of civil unrest in the colonies. In the 2460's a full-blown rebellion was started. It was small at first, but began to grow. In 2470 Icarus Faelin became the leader of the Edessian rebels and gained Edessa independance in 2475.
